Nutrition & Wellness-
the Primal Way

Let’s ditch the many restrictive diet plans, and nourish our families with variety

Hey friends, I’m Jamie- a holistically practicing PA who believes there is extensive wisdom to be found in “the primal way” of living, in tune with the patterns of nature, ancestral nutrition, wild medicinals, and pre-industrial food preparation. I’m also a mother of hungry boys, and wife to a gluten-intolerant (yet amazing and wonderful) husband. I’d love to share with you the insights I’ve gained on my journey as an integrative healthcare provider/ mom, and continue to learn alongside you.

What is a primal way of living and eating? And does it even matter? Could it really offer us any insight into ways of eating and food preparation that heal our bodies and the earth?

I have a hunch that I’m not the only one (especially amongst busy mamas, trying to cook healthy, from-scratch meals for their families) who is sick and tired of the numerous restrictive, and altogether stressful diets, that bombard us at every turn, promising to be the only truly wholesome way to eat and to heal every ailment. I’ve officially broken up with the zero-carb, grain-free, vegan, carnivore, caveman, ketogenic, and even paleolithic diets. I’ve come to embrace what each and every food group has to offer, with a deeper understanding of the changes occurring in our food industry, that have lead to harmful consequences and the demonization of certain food groups.

As a medical professional, it didn’t take long for me to realize the shortcomings of Western medicine, in the realms of nutritional and alternative care. Something never felt quite right about the perspective that placed white bread at the base of the food pyramid, nor that labeled all bread and grains as “inflammatory,” when these foods were staples of the human diet for centuries. And how could red meat possibly be a causative agent for colon cancer or diabetes, when those diseases are relatively modern, and human reliance on red meat consumption is, quite literally, ancient?? Something simply didn’t add up, as I reviewed the literature, with each new diet that I was introduced to, in search of the truth.

I am not here to sell you another extreme or restrictive diet plan, and I would caution you to be leery of anyone that is. But, I do hope to dispel much of the confusion (and stress) surrounding food and medicine- what’s nutritious and why, how can we realistically prepare such foods within the tangles of our busy lives, and where is the balance between nourishing our bodies, avoiding toxins, enjoying the earth’s wild herbal remedies, and knowing when it’s time to utilize modern medicine. How can food be utilized to heal our bodies, rather than harm it.

Could there be a refreshingly well-rounded perspective on nutrition, that won’t leave you stressed out in the attempt to omit an entire food group?
